VoIP Makes Cents &
Only a few years ago, most people had no idea what
Voice Over IP phone service was, but today it is becoming
a household word, and a growing phenomenon. With regular
landline phone service and cellular phone service once
again becoming uncomfortably expensive, with rates,
taxes and fees driving prices up higher each year, Voice
Over IP has become a excellent alternative. As more
and more people are hearing about and trying VoIP, its
reputation as a reliable yet inexpensive way of having
phone service, and most importantly long distance service,
is spreading throughout the world.
Voice Over IP lets people make and receive phone calls
over the Internet. This can be done using a headset
and microphone and dialing directly through a computer,
or by using a regular telephone fitted with an adapter.
If you are using a telephone and adapter, the signal
that goes into the telephone as you talk is converted
to a digital signal that moves through the Internet
and then changes once again to a regular phone signal
on the other end of the line. VoIP can only be used
in places where there is a broadband Internet connection,
but with more people choosing broadband connections
over dial-up connections these days, this is not seen
as a major issue. Most people are choosing broadband
connections for faster Internet surfing and downloading,
and VoIP is just another good reason to switch over.
Voice Over IP is much less expensive than regular phone
service when you factor in long distance charges. In
the same way that you can talk to people anywhere over
the Internet without paying more in ISP charges, with
VoIP you can talk to people anywhere in your country
(and many times in areas outside your country) for one
set monthly price. There is no limit to the national
long distance calls you can make and there will be no
extra charge. In addition to this, calls to other countries
are so much cheaper with Voice Over IP that other phone
services cannot hope to compete.
With VoIP, calls to other countries many times two
to three times less expensive than national long distance
calls made with the more traditional phone services.
At a price range of anywhere from $20 per month to $40
per month, depending on the service, Voice Over IP is
the most cost effective choice. Another added benefit
of VoIP is that you can use it for free if you use a
headset and microphone and talk to another person computer
to computer. Many major Internet companies, such as
Yahoo and Skype, provide free service for those who
want to call and talk to each other over their computers
using headsets and microphones.
Over the past few years Voice Over IP has been improved
upon enough to make calls made through this service
as clear as calls made through regular telephone service.
In fact, most users are reporting clearer calls with
VoIP than with traditional analog phone lines. With
all of the advantages of Voice Over IP, it is clearly
becoming the smart choice for today's telephoning needs.
